DDAM: HISTORY

Detroit Diesel started as a division of the General Motors Corporation as far back as 1937 until the creation of Detroit Diesel Allison in 1970. Its Mexican counterpart, Detroit Diesel Allison de México was founded in 1991 as a company belonging to the Penske Group, property of Mr. Roger Penske. The wide success among the Mexican market allowed for the expansion of the company in 1995 and the establishment of 5 regional offices throughout the nation: Estado de México, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Hermosillo, Villahermosa; 3 sales offices in Veracruz, Cancún and Puerto Vallarta; as well as a network of dealers throughout the Mexican Republic.

On July 21st, 2000, the German-American consortium DaimlerChrysler acquired 100 percent of the Detroit Diesel shares, elevating the company to the number one ranking world-wide. That same year, DaimlerChrysler announced that it would invest 225 million dollars for the development of the Series 60 engine, an investment which insured that DDC products would remain leaders of the diesel engine market for years to come.

Detroit Diesel Allison de México offers its customers cutting edge technology such as the Series 60 engine, the first completely electronic engine of its kind and the Detroit Diesel Electronic Control (DDEC), an electronic control module regulating the fuel injection for a more efficient engine combustion cycle.
